4 Principles of Long term Good Health and Healthy Lifestyle

After New Year people are often looking around for the best methods to lose those few extra pounds that they’ve piled on during the festive season.

4 Principles of Long term Good Health and Healthy Lifestyle

But what they need to know is that there may be many methods for dealing with the extra weight but the principles for success remain only a few and the same:

1. Eat natural foods which are as close to their natural state as possible (pasta doesn’t grow on trees, does it?).

I strongly believe in the benefits that the Paleo way of eating offers to us. I have explained the Paleo way in more detail in this earlier post: Are grains essential in human diet?

2. Drink lots and lots of water and flavour it with a squeeze of fresh lemon/lime juice which will help you to cleanse your digestive system.

The majority of the population are not drinking enough hydrating drinks on a daily basis and as a result are suffering with headaches, lethargy, and a lack of concentration. We don’t need any pills to get rid of the headaches – just more water! Read more about hydration here: Are you drinking enough?

3. Get a good night’s sleep (yes, more than 6 hours preferably) – go to bed earlier, sleep in a dark room without your iPhone next to your pillow.

Did you know that in the Soviet Union times, when Lithuania was part of the Soviet Union and the KGB was active within Lithuania, the best method to extract information from the KGB prisoners was sleep deprivation? They would put the prisoners in a dark, cold cell where the floor was flooded with ice cold water and the prisoners had to stand on a flat stone. They could not fall asleep as they would just fall into the ice cold water. Eventually the lack of sleep would break even the toughest ones!

4. Do whatever you can to manage and reduce your stress levels. Think like this – if you can change the stressful situation, then go ahead and do it; if you can’t change or influence it, then just accept it and move on. It’s  not worth wasting your precious energy and time on something that cannot be influenced or changed by you and is out of your control! Look forwards not backwards!

Now go ahead and implement at least one of these principles each week and see what difference they will make to your life, health, daily productivity, energy levels and overall happiness!

P.S. I would love to hear how you got on – comment bellow or send me a direct email.

    Hi Jurga,

Brilliant blog! Thank you for the advice, I will try and implement 1 and 2 (I’m pretty good at 3 and 4). I’m a terrible one for picking up anything that’s quick and easy to eat or getting to 5 o’clock and wondering why I’ve got a headache – dur – I’ve not had a glass of water all day.
I’ll let you know how I get on…

Thank you for your kind words Sally. Good to hear that you are doing pretty well on the 4 principles. As for No 1 I’d say the key for success is in planning and preparation. And for No 2 – how about setting an hourly reminder on your phone “Time for a drink Sally!”?

Thank you for the tips, I’ll set up reminders starting tomorrow. And I must try harder to be organised and plan my meals.
    Thank you : )
